Type of Position: Temporary Full Time (6 months with the possibility of extension)
Job Purpose:
The Outreach Worker provides culturally grounded outreach, advocacy, and holistic support to individuals and families in Cold Lake First Nations. This role is crucial for assisting community members who are experiencing challenges such as homelessness, addiction, and systemic marginalization, ensuring they receive respectful and culturally safe services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide direct outreach and support to clients in high-risk environments.
- Distribute harm reduction supplies, hygiene kits, and other essential items.
- Act as a liaison, connecting clients with Indigenous service providers, Elders, and other cultural supports.
- Help clients navigate and access services like housing, income support, and addiction treatment.
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations to create a network of support.
- Support community connection through cultural activities and referrals to land-based healing opportunities.
- Maintain confidential case notes and contribute to program reporting.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- A diploma or degree in Social Work, Indigenous Studies, Human Services, or a related field. Relevant experience will also be considered.
- Experience working with Indigenous Peoples and a commitment to cultural humility.
- Knowledge of Indigenous histories, intergenerational trauma, and the impacts of colonization.
- Understanding of harm reduction and trauma-informed care.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and conflict de-escalation skills.
- A clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Current First Aid/CPR and Naloxone training (or willingness to obtain).
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
- Monday to Thursday 8:30am – 4:30pm, Friday 8:30am – 2:00pm. Working hours can vary and/or flexible depending on type of assignment or work plan task.
- Field-based work in street and shelter environments.
- Exposure to trauma, crisis situations, and diverse living conditions.
- Some physical activity, including walking long distances and working outdoors in varying weather.
- Flexible work schedule with occasional evenings and weekends.
