Options Community Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering social services across the Southern Fraser region (Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Langley) from early childhood to seniors. Our comprehensive range of programs and services relies on collaborative relationships with individuals, businesses, community groups and government bodies to create focused, effective and responsive resources for the community.

Position Overview

Are you passionate about making a difference in mental health care? Join our team as a Mental Health Worker in our Supported Living program, where you will provide essential support to individuals facing psychiatric illnesses and challenges such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, cluster B personality traits, and depression. In this role, you will play a vital part in providing essential support and facilitating activities that promote recovery and well-being within our Mental Health services. Your dedication will directly impact the lives of our clients, families, and stakeholders by offering coaching, education, training, and valuable resource support.

Reporting to the Program Manager, our selected candidate will assess clients for psychosocial rehabilitation needs and will support their independence and self-determination in both home and community settings. Responsibilities will also include assisting with daily activities like cooking and budgeting, providing transportation, and facilitating community integration. The successful candidate should also maintain detailed progress notes, collaborate with professionals, and monitor clients' well-being, responding to mental health emergencies as needed.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position must possess either a Mental Health Diploma or Certificate, a degree in social services or a related field, or a combination of relevant education. Additionally, they should have a minimum of one year of experience working with vulnerable populations, and hold a current Level 1 First Aid certificate. A requirement includes an unrestricted Class 5 Driver’s License and the candidate must have access to a reliable vehicle for business use. Lived experience relevant to the service setting is considered advantageous.

Successful incumbent should have a strong understanding of psychosocial rehabilitation practices along with excellent organizational, time management, and general management skills. They must demonstrate a commitment to a problem-solving approach and exhibit proficiency in written, oral, and interpersonal communication. The ability to develop program-related reference materials, work independently or as part of a team, prioritize tasks effectively, meet deadlines, and handle sensitive issues with confidentiality is essential.

This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
