Our Mobile Outreach Department is looking for a dedicated Outreach Worker II to join the team.
Position Responsibilities
The Outreach Worker is on the front lines dealing with matters related to addiction, mental health, homelessness, public intoxication, and social disorder. The Outreach Worker will assist businesses and residents in their handling of community concerns related to the street-engaged population. This may include but is not limited to trespassing, loitering, disturbances, public intoxication, and needle debris.
With a focus on client engagement, you will conduct field-based assessments to determine the client's vulnerability and risk factors. Following the assessment, you will attempt to provide immediate support for a client's basic needs and navigation through local service systems such as emergency shelters, health care, addiction treatment, and housing. If necessary, the client will either be provided necessities or taken to a safe space or health facility to address the danger or health issue they are facing. You will perform other departmental duties as directed by the Mobile Outreach Manager or their designate.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:- High School Diploma
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid Alberta Drivers License – Class 5
- Driver abstract
- Excellent communication skills – orally and written
- Advanced conflict resolution skills
- Experience dealing with the vulnerable population
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to interpret/apply policy & procedure
- Strong interviewing and assessment skills
- Knowledge of computers and related applications is desirable
- Desirable training includes: Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, De-escalation Training, Standard First Aid/CPR, Mental Health First Aid, Naloxone Training, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, ICS 100, ICS 200, Verbal Judo
Hours
The standard workweek consists of an average of 40 hours (4 on 4 off schedule), with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.
Compensation
Starting salary $34.70 per hour as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.
