The Cool Aid Community Health Centre provides healthcare to 7,000 patients, including those experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, infectious disease, problematic substance use and chronic illnesses. The Medical Office Assistant will be a valued part of a dynamic team that is passionate about making a difference in the community.
The Medical Office Assistant is responsible for the smooth operation of the reception area. Duties include booking appointments, answering phones, maintaining records, receiving and providing information to patients and the public, and providing administrative support to the Community Health Centre staff. The successful applicant will be committed to the goal of improving the health of people living in the community and enjoys working with the public. As a frontline team member, the Medical Office Assistant role is often the first individual to interact with a visiting client. It is essential that the successful applicant possesses skills in conflict management, understands when to seek further support, and can address sensitive issues with compassion and integrity. All team members of the Cool Aid Community Health Centre provide care from a trauma-informed perspective.
A narrow selection of the larger scope and responsibilities for the Medical Office Assistant position are as follows:
Receive, screen and direct all clients and patients to appropriate program.
Triage and monitor patient flow.
Answer and direct incoming calls on administration and medical phone lines.
Book follow-up appointment, fax lab requisitions, fax and mail triplicate prescriptions
Enter, retrieve and maintain medical information in patient's electronic medical records; scans, and link documents.
Clean and/or sterilize medical instruments, equipment, and medical areas.
The successful applicant will have the ability to organize work, manage time and carry out the duties of the position with independence. In addition, they will have experience in clinical or other settings that include clients who come from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds all while maintaining sensitivity towards the needs of all patients.
Qualifications
Completion of Grade 12 plus one year of related training.
Ability to manage both paper and electronic information effectively and communicate well both orally and in writing.
- Ability to type 60 words per minute, word process and use a range of related applications.
- Experience that includes:
- Familiarity with the CHR Medical System, medical terminology, billing, Teleplan.
- Preparation of documents and reports.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to function and work cooperatively with health professionals, as a member of an interdisciplinary team and with members of the community.
Requirements
Successful completion of the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Record Check.
