Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Designer / Drafter to join our dynamic boat building team in Sechelt, BC. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating detailed designs and specifications for marine mechanical and electrical systems and components. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and proficiency in various design software. The Mechanical Designer will collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure that designs meet project requirements and industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop and produce detailed mechanical designs using CAD software, including SolidWorks, Rhino, AutoCAD, and Pro/ENGINEER.
- Create 3D models and 2D drawings for manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project specifications and requirements.
- Utilize MicroStation and NavisWorks for design integration and visualization.
- Conduct design reviews and provide feedback to improve product functionality and manufacturability.
- Assemble prototypes and conduct testing to validate designs against performance criteria.
- Maintain accurate documentation of design changes, specifications, and project progress.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices in mechanical design.
Skills
- Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, Rhino and AutoCAD.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices.
- Experience in assembling mechanical components and systems.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with team members.
- Familiarity with Bluebeam for document management is a plus.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Minimum (& Desirable) Requirements
- 5 Years Experience in mechanical design and drafting.
- Willing to relocate to the Sunshine Coast (Sechelt/Gibsons area).
- Post-secondary engineering or design-oriented equivalent education related to mechanical and/or marine design and/or engineering.
- (Desirable) Professional designations such as EIT, P.Eng.
- (Desirable) Demonstrated experience managing engineering projects;
- Excellent customer service focus, including strong communication skills in a professional and respectful manner.
- Fluent in reading, writing and speaking English.
- Intermediate level of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software experience (e.g. Solidworks, Rhino, AutoCAD, and/or an equivalent).
- Intermediate level administrative types of software (Microsoft Office, SmartSheet, DropBox, etc.)

Pay: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
