Responsible to provide an exceptional level of customer service and maintain a safe and efficient operation while adhering to all company, industry, and governmental policies, procedures, and standards, including meeting established productivity standards. Responsible for ordering and preparation of meat, fish and seafood including cleaning, cutting/filleting/trimming, displaying, and pricing. Performs general housekeeping duties, assisting team members when necessary, and any other duties as assigned.
Job Duties
- Responsible for the order, receipt, inspection, storage, and preparation of meats and/or fish and seafood and supplies. Using knives and other carving tools and equipment to cut, fillet, and trim meat/fish and seafood for sale to customers.
- Maintains and ensures compliance with local co-op standards and government food and sanitation health and safety standards.
- Fill and rotate frozen and processed stock following FIFO procedures as well as fill all necessary Charts and Logs (ex. grinder logs and temperature logs).
- Responsible for providing information, assistance, and exceptional customer service to all customers.
- Packages, wraps, displays and prices meat products and assists customers with large or special orders.
- Follow production charts and stock control sheets to ensure displays are filled and adheres to quality and food safety standards.
- Performs general housekeeping duties to ensure all areas of responsibility are safe, organized, and clean, including sharpening equipment and monitoring refrigeration temperature within all food safety standards and guidelines.
- Operates the meat sales and stock areas in an efficient manner and ensures price integrity to facilitate the accurate processing of sales. Responsible for ordering, receiving, processing and merchandising of product for the counter to ensure an adequate selection of product is available with requests from the meat wrapper as a priority.
- Required to do counter set up, merchandising and closing as per department requirements. This includes correct product storage, sanitation and clean up.
- Replaces stock, rotates current stock and ensures satisfactory inventory levels.
- Ensures the proper care, use and maintenance of all equipment, software and links; including reporting required repairs to management.
- Presents a neat and clean department while maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards.
- Assists the Meat Manager/Assistant Meat Manager in the implementation of plans and procedures for the Meat operations; administers plans and procedures to enhance operations.
- Provide training and direction to clerks in the meat department.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Journeyperson Meat Cutter Certificate or equivalent training and experience.
- 2 years experience working in a meat department.
- Must be knowledgeable in food preparation and handling.

- Open availability and flexibility to work nights, weekends, store opening and closings to meet the needs of the business.
- Ability to carry up to 40lbs.
- Ability to stand for up to 8 hours per shift.
- Ability to work in a cooler for up to 8 hours per shift.
- Manual dexterity required to use department equipment.
- Overtime as required.
