We are seeking dedicated instructors for our Journey North Program, within our Indigenous School Programs department, starting October 20th, 2025. If you are passionate about using education to drive positive change, eager to address the challenges faced by Indigenous youth, and excited about exploring remote parts of Canada, this role is for you.
2-WEEK TEAM BUILDING TRAINING AT HEADQUARTERS
Join us for 2 weeks at our headquarters in Southern Ontario, where you'll engage in dynamic team-building activities designed to enhance leadership skills and foster collaboration. Experience hands-on workshops, cultural sensitivity training, and enriching discussions with a diverse group of educators. This immersive training will prepare you for your upcoming Journey North and set the stage for a successful and impactful journey.
8 or 9 MONTHS LIVING UP NORTH
Journey North and spend 6 or 7 months living in remote communities in Northern Quebec during the service portion of the program. As part of this impactful program, you’ll work closely with Indigenous high school students, offering personalized STEM educational support.
*9-month option extends into our Summer School program in the same communities
You will be part of a team of 20+ instructors across nine communities, providing tailored math and science academic support. This includes providing one-on-one support, and offering after-school and weekend tutoring sessions. You’ll also lead engaging hands-on science workshops for students, fostering a dynamic and interactive learning environment. All support programs are delivered in English and French.
Your role will involve adapting to the unique needs of each community, helping students at various academic levels, and contributing to their overall educational journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach and Lead: Deliver engaging lessons in science and/or math to secondary school students, in English. Lead interactive science & technology workshops to elementary and secondary students.
- Program Development: Assist in creating and implementing effective teaching and tutoring programs.
- Reporting: Provide weekly updates to management in the specified format.
- Advocacy: Promote and embody the mission and values of Elephant Thoughts in all interactions.
Essential Knowledge and/or Skills:
- Teaching/tutoring experience, preferably in Math and/or Science
- Excellent oral and written English and/or French and/or Indigenous language(s)
- Good presentation skills
- Intermediate computer ability with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, social media platforms, virtual teaching through various tools (Microsoft Teams, Google Meets, Zoom)
- Advanced Internet research skills, email skills
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs, boxes on wheels
- Able to comfortably move around a classroom or outdoors with students.

- Valid Ontario driver’s license and ability to drive long distances on remote roads

- Current police clearance report with attention to vulnerable sector screening
- Available to travel to and between Northern Communities
- Adaptable to living conditions in remote communities
Desirable Qualifications:
- Teaching Certificate: Preferred but not required.
- Diverse Experience: Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds and those with special needs.
