The opportunity:
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Marketing Coordinator leads content creation, digital storytelling, and design efforts. This is an ideal role for a marketer with a talent for visual communication, a knack for compelling messaging, and a strong eye for aesthetics and usability across web, video, slide decks, and social media. The Marketing Coordinator will primarily be responsible for developing and executing marketing and communications strategies, and planning and coordinating events to enhance the profile and reach of the various programs in the portfolio of the Office of the Vice-President (Research and International), primarily the Lab2Market (L2M) program. What’s Lab2Market? L2M Prairies helps student and faculty researchers transform innovative ideas into commercial success by applying a scientific approach to entrepreneurship.
This position will also support the marketing and event initiatives of the Vice-President (Research and International) Office (VPRIO), and the Partnerships, Knowledge Mobilization, and Innovation (PKMI) Office.
The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:
- Undergraduate degree in Marketing and Communications or a related discipline required.
- Knowledge of university regulations, programs and procedures as they relate to the function/program.
- Two years of directly-related experience in a marketing, communications, or digital media role required.
- Experience managing website content (e.g., WordPress, Webflow, or Squarespace)
- Knowledge of Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or other design tools required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data management, charts, formulas, reports) required.
- Experience in planning and coordinating a variety of events required.
- Proven experience managing and growing content platforms, including blogs, YouTube channels, and multiple social media handles (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, X/Twitter, Facebook) required.
- Experience updating web content and using content management systems platforms an asset (e.g., WordPress, Webflow, Drupal, SharePoint) required.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and executing marketing and communication strategies required.
- Experience managing budgets and working with vendors required.
- Previous experience working with startups, research institutions, or innovation programs is considered an asset.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated ability to create engaging, audience-focused content across formats (written, video, short-form, visual, etc.) is required.
- -Strong understanding of social media trends, platform algorithms, and audience engagement strategies is required.
- Ability to maintain and optimize a content calendar, ensuring consistent, timely, and strategic content delivery is required.
- Strong proficiency in PowerPoint and slide design for professional presentations is required.
- Proficiency in video shooting/editing (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or equivalent) is required.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a strong sense of brand voice and tone is required.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities is required.
- Ability to work independently and with limited supervision, as well as collaboratively in a team environment is required.
- Flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced and changing environment is required.
- Comfortable learning new technologies and working across multiple platforms is required.
- An understanding of general office procedures is required.
- A high degree of tact, diplomacy, and professionalism is needed in daily contacts with senior University personnel, Faculty members, UM staff, industry partners, and external agencies is required.
- A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
- Familiarity with CRM and project tools (Airtable, Notion, Slack, Trello, etc.) is an asset.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards for digital content is an asset.
