Job Description
The HSEQ Manager is responsible for building, implementing, and managing Hodder’s HSEQ programs across all operations.
This includes workplace safety initiatives, environmental protection measures, and quality management systems. Working closely with senior management, vessel crews, and shore staff, the HSEQ Manager will lead audits, risk assessments, safety campaigns, and training programs that reinforce Hodder’s safety-first values.
A central part of the role is promoting a zero-blame culture, where open reporting of incidents and near misses drives learning and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and oversee company-wide HSEQ policies and procedures.
- Keep up with MMSR
- Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC requirements and applicable environmental regulations.
- Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments across vessels and facilities.
- Lead incident and near-miss investigations, ensuring corrective actions are applied.
- Deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns for crews and staff.
- Manage company quality systems and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Act as an advisor to operations, helping crews and managers improve day-to-day safety and environmental performance.
- Support the Port Captain in ensuring SIRE compliance.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary Masters degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of HSEQ or safety leadership experience, ideally in marine, transportation, or heavy industry.
- Knowledge of WorkSafeBC standards, environmental compliance, and industry best practices.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to engage crews, supervisors, and executives alike.
- Experience leading audits, training programs, and incident investigations.
- Certification in internal auditing (ISO 9001/14001 or similar) is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to vessels, terminals, and coastal sites as needed.
