This role is part of a unionized environment, with all deckhand positions represented by the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local 400 – Marine Section.

Job Description
We are looking for Deckhands to join our tug fleet. Deckhands are an essential part of every voyage, working directly on deck to ensure safe towing, mooring, and line-handling operations. This is hands-on, physical work that requires attention to detail, situational awareness, and the ability to work as part of a tight-knit crew in all weather conditions.
Responsibilities
- Handle lines, wires, and towing gear during harbour assists, barge tows, and coastal operations.
- Support mooring and unmooring operations, securing barges, and setting up towing equipment.
- Perform routine deck maintenance, including painting, greasing, and equipment checks.
- Assist in safety drills (fire, man overboard, abandon ship) and respond effectively in emergencies.
- Work as part of a team under the direction of the Captain and Mates to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Maintain a clean, safe working environment on deck at all times.
Qualifications
- Valid Marine Emergency Duties (MED) – Basic Safety Training.
- Valid Seafarer’s Marine Medical Certificate.
- Restricted Operator Certificate – Marine (ROC-M) is an asset.
- Prior experience as a deckhand, or working knowledge of tug and barge operations, is an asset but not required—training is provided.
- Strong work ethic, teamwork, and willingness to work outdoors in all conditions.
- Physically fit and able to handle heavy lines, climb ladders, and perform deck duties safely.
- Must be (or willing to become) a member in good standing with ILWU Local 400.
- Bridgewatch certification will get you in front of the line.
- D&A Screening.
- Criminal Background Check.
