Manager, Career and Employment Services

Start Date: As Soon As Possible

Salary Range: $82,443.01 to $111,540.55

Location: 130 Henlow Bay

Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 hours/week)


Reporting to the Director, Career and Student Engagement, the Manager of Career, and Employment Services (CES) ensures that MITT’s career and employment services team provides career and employment-related resources and programming for all MITT students.


This position is responsible for developing local relationships with influential members of different communities. A key for success in this position will be the ability to use market intelligence, data analysis, and other internal/external data to drive career and employment services activities.

Fostering strong relationships with off-campus partners such as guidance counsellors, teachers, members of school divisions, and the broader collective career community is essential to promoting MITT locally and nationally. The successful candidate draws on their knowledge and expertise in team leadership, to establish a productive, high-performance team working effectively and ethically on behalf of MITT.


R
esponsibilities include but are not limited to:

Staff Management and Development
  • Provide strategic and inspirational leadership, as well as oversight and direction to career and employment services staff in accordance with MITT policies and procedures.
  • Foster a spirit of teamwork, accountability and unity among business unit members that allows for disagreement over ideas, conflict and expeditious conflict resolution, and the appreciation of diversity as well as cohesiveness, support, and working effectively together to enable each employee and the business unit to succeed.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop staff, including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities.
  • Consciously create a workplace culture that is consistent with that of the overall organization.
  • Provide effective performance feedback through employee recognition, and disciplinary action, with the assistance of Human Resources, when necessary.
  • Oversee CES and maintain transparent communication. Appropriately communicate organization information through team meetings, one-on-one meetings, and appropriate digital messaging, and regular interpersonal communication.
  • Actively promote staff professional development opportunities.

Industry Engagement

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of professional contacts and ongoing relationships with business, industry, and community organizations in order to identify student employment, work integrated learning, and engagement opportunities.
  • Engage industry in meaningful conversations regarding skill needs, gaps and opportunities for enhanced skill development while responding to emerging industry trends.
Community Support and Outreach

  • Liaise and provide outreach to partnership school divisions, other Manitoba school divisions and MITT program pathways by focusing on career exploration opportunities, activities and events.
  • Support various MITT departments with career related activities and initiatives
  • Support the MITT student community; provide direct service to students when required and facilitate workshops and presentations on career, employment, and workforce development related topics.


Project Management

  • Pursue new career related projects and funding opportunities.
  • Oversee special projects including hiring and training of staff and consultants.
  • Complete all financial reporting and manage project budgets.
  • Work collaboratively with external stakeholders, funders, and project partners.

Personnel

  • Provides leadership, performance reviews and professional development to the Career Development team including CES Officer staff.
  • Set performance objectives, provide guidance and evaluate the Career & Employment Services Officer staff, Industry Engagement Officer staff, and Adult Learning Centre Career Officer staff.

CRM / System Management

  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of the Employer CRM system (currently ‘Symplicity’) working with the CES Officer team.
  • Participate in bi-weekly meetings with the system provider and CES team.
  • Connect with MITT departments on utilization and optimization of the system.

Budget Control and Analysis

  • Administer the area budget, make financial projections, and report on income and expenditures.
  • Evaluate return on investment on budgeted expenses (i.e. travel).
  • Oversee budget.
  • Prepare and present reports summarizing relevant data, statistics, and recommendations.

Business Development Support

  • Coordinate assigned staff and internal partners to participate in regional, provincial and national workshops, symposiums, and conferences, as approved.
  • Build and maintain an active network of key contacts in the community, partner institutions and organizations—such as professional associations and business/government—to promote the reputation of, and add value to, the Institute.
  • Organize career events and student support activities.
  • Oversee strategic initiatives, ensuring all deliverables and outcomes are achieved.

Marketing and Communications Support

  • Work closely with the marketing team to create annual plan (including goals, objectives, and resource needs).
  • Develop marketing materials and collaborate with the Marketing team for internal marketing and external career purposes
  • Liaise with Project & Events Officer, Marketing and Communications to determine and support events such as Open House, Counsellors Seminar, webinars, and participate in these events.
  • Work with Marketing to ensure digital and print materials are relevant.


Required Qualifications and Experience
:

A combination of related education and experience may be considered.

  • Post-secondary education within the field of Social Sciences, Adult Education and Training, Business Administration, or Human Resource Management .
  • Five to seven years of related experience, including experience in operations, leadership, systems development, personnel/staffing management, and program development; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Significant experience and successful results in career development.
  • Experience in program coordination, employer engagement, and/or student advising.
  • Familiarity with labour market trends and employment-focused training initiatives.
  • Excellent knowledge of client relations, marketing, communications, and best practices and strategies.
  • Proficient in the use of enterprise level systems (i.e., SIMS, CRM) as well as standard office systems (word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database applications) and business process design.
  • Experience in prudent fiscal accountability and budget administration.
  • Ability to research, synthesize, and analyze metrics.
  • Valid driver's license required.


Preferred Qualifications and Experience
:

  • Knowledge of the local secondary and post-secondary school systems.
  • Career Development certification / training and the Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) designation.
