Purpose
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Supports the Bank’s risk management strategies by overseeing the three streams within the Media Search Team that perform AML/ATF related media searches and appropriately adjudicate the materiality of negative news articles including escalation/creation of cases for customer matches to the appropriate AML Unit for action.
- Ensure that the teams maintain proper records of media search activity via tracking of end-to-end activities in line with internal processes and procedures.
- Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout the Media Search Team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Ensures the analysts complete their assigned daily activities within established timelines.
- Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in the day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Operates within the Bank’s risk appetite and conduct business and interactions with customers, employees, and others in a legal and ethical manner that promotes integrity across the Bank
- Escalate risks identified as part of media search activities to appropriate management individuals and/or internal partners in order to effectively mitigate and manage risk to the Bank.
- Escalate any concerns regarding conduct risk or a deficiency in internal controls, policies or procedures.
- Create an environment in which the team members pursue effective and efficient operations of their individual respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
- Build a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors
- Maintain a sound knowledge and understanding of the Bank’s AML policies and internal procedures and protocols.
- Provide back up support to the MST Bogota Manager to manage the Media Search mailbox and respond promptly to urgent requests from internal partners
- Escalates high-risk or sensitive customers with negative news to the Senior Manager/Director, when applicable
- Raises issues or unexpected spikes in volumes to the Senior Manager/Director in a timely manner
- Identifies opportunities for process improvements and contributes to the execution of process changes
- Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
- Provide coaching, assistance and direction to analysts to achieve optimum performance and quality levels
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:
- Post-secondary education is required with a preferred minimum of 1-3 years of banking and/or operations experience.
- Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist, Certified Financial Crime Specialist, or equivalent designation is an asset.
- Basic knowledge of local and major international AML/ATF regulations and regulatory reporting framework.
- Demonstrated experience of problem-solving and critical thinking with solid organization and time management skills.
- Demonstrated experience of leveraging analytical skills to make rational and logical interpretations.
- Demonstrated experience of gathering, analyzing, organizing and documenting information in a succinct and organized manner
Work Arrangement: Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. Travel may be required on an exception basis.
