Machine Setup & Tooling Maintenance Technician – ThruFlow Premium Decking
Location: Wallaceburg, Ontario
Mon-Fri – 7:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Plus Call-Ins & OT)
Rate: $25-$30 hourly
Job Summary:
ThruFlow Premium Decking is seeking a skilled and dependable Machine Setup & Tooling Maintenance Technician to join our production team. This role is critical to the daily operation of our injection molding department, ensuring that machines and tooling are correctly set up, maintained, and optimized for maximum production efficiency. The Technician will be responsible for changeovers, routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and ensuring the integrity of our molds and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Machine Setup & Changeovers
- Perform weekly mold change (changeovers) efficiently and safely according to production schedules.
- Set process parameters according to setup sheets and ensure startup meets quality standards.
- Ensure machine, mold, and auxiliary equipment (e.g., temperature controllers, dryers) are properly connected and operational.
Tooling & Mold Maintenance
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance on molds including cleaning, inspections, and minor repairs.
- Perform mold assembly and disassembly work including cleaning, inspection, greasing, and replacement of mold components such as pins, bushings, O-rings, and inserts.
- Monitor mold wear and report potential issues to the Production Manager,
- Assist with mold storage and organization, ensuring proper labeling and handling procedures are followed.
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
- Perform preventive maintenance on injection molding machines and support equipment according to PM schedules.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical or hydraulic issues during production.
- Document maintenance activities using company maintenance templates to assist in maintaining service records.
Collaboration & Safety
- Work closely with the Production Manager and Quality team to ensure all parts meet specifications.
- Follow and enforce all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout and PPE use.
- Support continuous improvement efforts and participate in root cause analysis when quality or downtime issues occur.
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in plastic injection molding machine setup and/or maintenance.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and temperature control systems.
- Ability to read technical drawings and follow mold setup sheets or SOPs.
- Solid understanding of mold safety, handling, and storage procedures.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts and respond to production downtime when required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Borche, Haitian, or Shibaura injection molding machines.
- Familiarity with hot runner systems, water manifolds, and mold clamping systems.
- Certification in industrial maintenance, millwrighting, or mold setup is an asset.
Working Conditions:
- Fast-paced production environment requiring attention to detail and safety awareness.
- Work involves standing, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working around machinery and tools.
