Job Title: Lead Hand – Garden Centre
Job Type: Full-Time
We are currently looking for a motivated and experienced individual to join our team as Lead Hand in our vibrant garden centre. Our garden centre is a thriving destination for gardening enthusiasts and homeowners, offering a wide variety of tropical plants, garden supplies, and overwintering services.
About the Role:
As the Lead Hand, you will work closely with the Garden Centre Manager to support daily operations. On the two days when the Manager is off, you will oversee a small team of 2–3 staff, ensuring smooth workflow, outstanding customer service, and a clean, organized, and welcoming retail environment.
This is not an assistant manager position, as we are a small, hands-on company. The Manager is present five days a week, and the Owner lives onsite and is available to support you. On the Manager’s days off, the Owner opens the garden centre and provides backup when needed.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
- Overseeing daily operations in collaboration with the Manager
- Leading a small team on designated days
- Maintaining plant health and product displays
- Ensuring the space is clean, organized, and visually appealing
- Providing excellent customer service
- Opening duties, including bringing out the till, counting cash, turning on music, and welcoming customers
- Supporting the overall customer and plant care experience
Staff follow a printed task list each morning, ensuring clarity and shared responsibility. Every team member is expected to assist customers and care for plants, which helps reduce pressure on the Lead Hand and ensures an efficient and cooperative environment.
