The Terrain Park Grooming Assistant Supervisor helps to oversee Slope Grooming Drivers responsible for the construction and maintenance of the Terrain Parks and special events features. The Terrain Park Grooming Assistant Supervisor collaborates with the Terrain Park Supervisors, Slope Grooming Drivers and Supervisors, Ski School, Ski Patrol and others that share the goal of a progressive and safe Terrain Park system.
The Terrain Park Grooming Assistant Supervisor will strive to promote and maintain Banff Sunshine Village as a leading-edge freestyle resort which provides terrain for all ability levels. Priority will be focused on establishing beginner terrain first, intermediate, and then advanced features, which will favor progression while minimizing the threat of injury.
The Terrain Park Grooming Assistant Supervisor will promote the safe and enjoyable use of the Terrain Parks at Sunshine Village. They will also work with internal departments and external stakeholders in the many aspects of major events. They support collaboration with media and marketing departments on sponsorship requirements, promotion, and innovative advancements of the industry. The position will work under the direction of the Terrain Park Grooming Supervisor who reports to the Senior Supervisor of Slopes & Mountain Operations Manager.
Job Functions
The primary responsibility of this role is to help with the initial build & regular snowcat maintenance of the Terrain Parks while also preparing & maintaining special event venues at the resort throughout the winter season. Functions include supporting the creation, review, and adherence to safe work procedures and hazard assessments for all tasks within the scope of work for Slope Grooming Drivers related to Terrian Parks and Events.
- Act as part of the leadership team promoting a supportive and positive team environment; provide knowledge, assist training, and strive to maintain balance through effective communication
- Liaise with the Terrain Park Grooming Supervisor, Slope Grooming Supervisor, Terrain Park Supervisor, Senior Slopes Supervisor, the Vehicle Maintenance department, and the Mountain Operations Manager
- Work closely with the Terrain Park Team, ensure perimeter safety fence, industry signage and information at each park is maintained to not present a public safety hazard and conform with the CWSAA Terrain Park Guidelines
- Mitigate risk to Banff Sunshine Village through risk assessments, mitigation measures and accident investigations
- Assist with hiring, scheduling, training, and performance reviews
- Knowledge of snow farming techniques to accumulate snow for the building of various features
- Oversee the initial builds & nightly maintenance of the Terrain Parks
- Adhere to company initiatives & policies, remain punctual, dress in uniform and act as a leader
- Fulfill the responsibilities of the Slope Grooming Supervisor or Slope Grooming Assistant Supervisor as required
- Heavy Equipment Operations including but not limited to: excavators, bulldozers, graders, telehandlers, dump trucks.
- Rigging for transportation of terrain park features, construction materials, lift components and other heavy loads.
- Minimum of 2 years Slope Grooming in the Terrain Park
- Previous supervisory experience is an asset
- Knowledge of basic drafting and have a competent understanding of physics in relation to snow features
- Experience in risk management, knowledge of how resort user demographics relate to Terrain Parks, and an understanding of overall skier traffic flow
- Working knowledge of weather patterns and how environmental conditions effect the surfaces and consistency of snow in the Terrain Parks
- Demonstrated knowledge of daily snow cat maintenance and safe operation
- Able to properly delegate tasks to team members to complete projects in a timely manner
- Knowledgeable of ski resort policies, procedures, and emergency procedures
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel and Word
- Valid Alberta Motor Vehicle Driver’s License
- Neat, alert, punctual and dependable, acting as a leader and mentor
- Effectively provide training, support, and assistance to colleagues across all departments
- Maintain professional conduct when knowingly acting as a company representative, on or off-duty
- Reliability to work in a confidential capacity
- Prepared to work flexible schedules: weekends, holidays, nights, extended hours
- Being familiar with Freestyle Terrain Parks at Sunshine Village is preferred
- Employees must always be of sound mind and report to work fit for duty. The ability to exercise good judgement is essential and a key requirement of the position.
- Exposure to extreme environments (temperature and wind) and remote work.
- This role may operate machinery and works around moving equipment.
