The Janitor is responsible to ensure customer service is provided through maintaining a safe and efficient operation while adhering to Company policies, procedures and standards. The Janitor provides direction to the Janitor’s Helper. This position reports directly to the Customer Service Supervisor/Front End Manager, and the main responsibilities include;
- Provides customer service and maintains positive customer relations through the proper handling of questions, comments, requests and complaints. Effectively works in a diverse team environment in a proficient and friendly manner.
- Plans and performs all aspects of the Janitor functions in and around the Centre and Gas Bar. This includes but is not limited to mopping, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning windows and cleaning spills.
- Handles merchandise ensuring quality, minimizing damages and markdowns.
- Performs general cleanup duties such as; cleaning display fixtures, ensures all windows and entrance ways are washed and dusted daily, cleans the outside and area parking lot, walkways and loading docks ensuring they are free from debris and snow. Responsible for keeping the sales floor and back stock area clean of cardboard and debris, as well as disposal of garbage.
- Performs duties following established Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety and Environmental regulations and policies to ensure the health and safety of all staff and customers.
- Ensures the proper care, use and maintenance of equipment and tools ensuring that all tools and equipment are placed in their assigned areas when not in use. Reports repair requirements and co-ordinates all out sourced service calls for major repairs and maintenance in consultation with the Maintenance Custodian, Assistant Centre or Duty Manager.
- Responsible for all aspects of ordering cleaning supplies maintaining proper stock levels to ensure a neat and organized department.
- Cleans the Centre, and Gas Bar washrooms including; replacing all supplies, cleaning all toilets, urinals and sinks keeping the bathrooms free of debris and organize the book exchange on a daily basis.
- Ensures proper garbage disposal for all Centre departments as required. Keeps the garbage disposal area neat and clean and ensures that all garbage, waste, cardboard and other collected items are picked-up as required.
- The Janitor is responsible to ensure the centre is maintained throughout the day and performing minor repairs including but not limited to changing light bulbs, hanging signs, decorating the store, and keeping rolling buggies oiled and greased.
- Responsible for the exterior cleanliness of commercial rental units where applicable.
