Position purpose:

Delivers workshops, activities and events designed to help youth, prospective students, and the community with the objective to build interest in engineering programs at the University of Ottawa. Represents the University of Ottawa and promotes Faculty programs and events by delivering online and in-person programming, including recruitment presentations. Provides technical support & maintenance for all equipment and technologies used for the Outreach Programs. Assists in the hiring process, trains new instructors and assists with improvements of curriculum and activities.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

1. Delivery of initiatives: Delivers online and in-person programming and recruitment presentations in French and English. Represents the University and promotes Faculty programs and events. Ensures proper transportation for team members and resources to various schools, community centers and other locations with Faculty vehicles. Ensures the safety and well-being of all participants during the events. Collects payments, follows-up on recruitment leads and completes required documents after each event.


2. Human Resources: Assists with the hiring process of new engineering and science students delivering workshop programming. This includes preparing applications and posting various advertisements on the Faculty and CO-OP Programs websites. Participates in the selection process of preferred candidates. Trains instructors on workshops and equipment maintenance while updating training documentation. Completes performance evaluations and provides feedback to instructors on a regular basis.


3. Technical Support and Maintenance: Provides technical support for all equipment, software, and vehicles under the office’s responsibility. Researches and proposes new technologies, replacements, improvements, etc. Duties include hardware and software configuration, calibration, cabling, repair, upgrades, debugging, testing and maintenance. Updates the database system by entering equipment status (users, status, new purchases). Maintains inventory of equipment purchases & organizes storage of equipment/tools.

4. Curriculum development: Prepares and ensures all resources and materials required for planned activities and presentations. Develops & tests various new workshops, activities & technologies for new initiatives. Develops training material for all projects. Updates existing curriculum and recommends improvements.

What you will bring:

  • College diploma in Engineering, Science, or related field or a combination of post-secondary and related work experience (Recent Engineering Graduate considered an asset)

  • Knowledge of project management methods and practices

  • Knowledge of administration and human resources principles

  • Minimum 2 years of demonstrated experience in a similar role

  • Experience developing/overseeing educational youth programs

  • Experience teaching youth

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts in a non-technical manner

  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to take on a multitude of different responsibilities

  • Ability to think critically and solve problems efficiently

  • Ability to multitask and stay organized

  • Bilingualism: French and English (written and spoken)

  • Position requires flexible working hours

  • Ability to travel, participate at events that might be held outside regular working hours

  • Valid driver’s license
