Position Summary
Bow Valley College’s School of Foundational Learning is seeking a dedicated and flexible High School Instructor (casual) to join our instructional team. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to learners, preparing and updating course syllabi and lesson plans, and developing curriculum, manuals, and guides as required. You will assess and evaluate learner performance on an ongoing basis, providing feedback and progress reports, while also ensuring assessment criteria and official records are maintained accurately.
Supporting learner success will be central to your work, as you address academic issues such as attendance, conduct, and performance, while also referring students to appropriate supports including tutoring, counseling, and accommodations. You will play an active role in fostering a positive learning environment by participating in student-focused activities such as orientation, open house, and graduation events.
As a representative of Bow Valley College, you will also contribute to building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, keeping current with changes in industry and pedagogy, and ensuring curriculum remains relevant and up-to-date. You may support articulation and transfer activities, as well as recruitment initiatives when required.
The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor of Education, a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate (Interim or Permanent), and at least two years of teaching experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree in a subject-related field, prior instructional experience in post-secondary or related settings, and demonstrated understanding of adult learning principles and Indigenous teaching and learning practices. Strong curriculum development experience, excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are essential. Experience with online delivery platforms such as D2L, Blackboard, or Moodle, along with exceptional organizational and writing skills, will be considered assets.
