Inclusive Child Care Worker

BGC Okanagan is hiring a full time Inclusive Child Care Worker to supporting children with a range of support needs in their childcare setting. This will predominantly be in Early Years settings but may work with children and youth up to the age of 19. Inclusive Childcare Workers will promote an inclusive approach and work with different childcare teams within the community. The ICC Model is a project involving multiple partners, aimed at providing inclusive childcare to anyone who would like to access it. Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in assessment, goal setting and program planning.
- Evaluates client needs and develops short-term plans to meet such needs.
- Supporting children with a range of support needs in their childcare setting.
- Supports full inclusion of one or more children in a childcare, afterschool care, or life skills program, and implementing strategies identified by the inclusive childcare consultant(s) defined in the participant's support/care plan.
- Facilitates physical, recreational, educational, social, and vocational activities.
- Recognizes, analyzes and manages potential emergency situations such as members aggressive behavior to minimize potential ensures no harm comes to the members and/or the public. Reports problems to the supervisor.
- Reviews and evaluates member progress and adjusts programs as required.
- Identifies social, economic, recreational, physical, vocational and educational services in the community that will meet member needs. Maintains liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials and the community.
- Promote inclusivity with peers while providing necessary accommodations
- Develops relationships with member’s parents/guardians and ensures effective communication with families.
- Maintain documentation of participants including daily case notes, statistical, and program reports
- Ensures that accurate program and member records are maintained, and that confidentiality is a priority.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Certificate and relevant experience working with children and youth with support needs or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- ECE or ECE Assistant certificate is an asset
- Valid Class 5 drivers license and vehicle, as travel is required between clubs
- First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain
Hours: 35 hours/week, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 6:00 pm
Rate of Pay: $25.95 per hour and cost shared benefits
