The Housing Support Worker plays a key role in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and stable environment for people living in our housing program. This role involves building supportive relationships, providing trauma-informed care, and supporting residents in maintaining housing stability. From assisting with daily needs to move-ins and wellness checks, this position is essential in upholding KGM’s values of dignity, compassion, and respect.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain supportive, trusting relationships with residents through regular wellness checks and daily engagement;
- Work collaboratively with the caseworking team to support tenants in achieving individual goals by providing access to a wide range of services and programs;
- Conduct regular walk-throughs of the building and grounds, ensuring cleanliness and safety while reporting any concerns or issues to the appropriate person;
- Ensure residents follow the policies and procedures of KGM, promoting a safe and respectful environment;
- Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the shelter premises, adhering to health and safety standards;
- De-escalate potential violent situations between clients, prioritizing the safety and well-being of residents and team members;
- Complete move-in and move-out inspections and provide orientation for new residents.
- Maintain accurate records of resident interactions, housing activities, services provided and incident reports.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required;
- Experience working in housing programs, shelter, or social service settings.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving abstract.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage time and responsibilities without direct supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain clear, professional boundaries and build respectful relationships.
- Experience using Microsoft Office and other platforms for documentation and communication.
- Able to multitask and stay focused while managing frequent interruptions or shifting priorities.
- Position requires working with individuals in crisis and exposure to challenging situations (training provided).
- This position is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (Vulnerable Sector).
