Job Overview
The Secondary Mathematics Educator is responsible for delivering high-quality mathematics instruction to high school students during the summer semester at Roots to Routes Academy. This role involves creating engaging lesson plans, assessing student progress, and fostering a positive learning environment to help students achieve their academic goals.
Duties
- Plan, organize, and deliver mathematics lessons to secondary students (grades 8-12) according to the academy’s curriculum.
- Assess and monitor student progress through regular quizzes, assignments, and feedback.
- Provide individualized support to students, addressing specific learning needs and helping them improve their mathematical skills.
- Develop and implement classroom activities that promote problem-solving, critical thinking, social emotional learning (SEL), and a love of learning.
- Collaborate with other educators and the Lead Educator to align instructional practices and improve overall program effectiveness.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment.
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and classroom dynamics.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and staff meetings as required.
- Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to create an inclusive classroom environment that respects diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
- Proficient in classroom management techniques to maintain a productive learning atmosphere.
- Familiarity with educational technology tools to enhance teaching methods.
- Critical thinking skills to adapt lesson plans based on student feedback and performance.
- Patience and empathy in dealing with students’ varying emotional and academic needs.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively while maintaining attention to detail.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or a related field.
- Ontario Certified Teachers are preferred.
