We are currently seeking a Health and Safety Specialist to join our growing team. The Health and Safety Specialist will play a pivotal role in managing our culture of safety within the organization. This position will require travelling across Northern Ontario.
Responsibilities
- Manage health and safety programs and procedures.
- Oversee maintenance of records of inspection reports, meeting minutes, risk assessments, accidents/incidents/near misses, and health and safety communications.
- Review existing safety procedures and risk assessments to ensure adherence with standards.
- Perform workplace audits and make recommendation and corrective actions.
- Ensure H&S training records are accurately maintained, current and readily accessible.
- Assist and review incident forms and investigations to determine actions for prevention.
- Manage and guide WSIB cases.
- Routine visits to all locations including mine sites.
- Participate in JHSC.
- Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with the corporation’s objectives.
Experience
- A Degree or Diploma in Human Resources, Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of work experience in Health and Safety, experience in the mining or industrial sector is required.
- Advanced knowledge and application of relevant legislation and regulations, including Occupational Health & Safety Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act
- Thorough knowledge and experience of hazard identification, auditing, risk assessments, ergonomics assessments with a proven ability to recognize and evaluate occupational health and safety hazards and recommend effective control measures.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical, problem-solving, oral, and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
- Valid G driver's license with a clear driver's abstract and access to a vehicle to respond to emergency situations.
