Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and culturally knowledgeable French interpreter to join our team on a freelance contract basis. The ideal candidate will facilitate clear communication and cultural understanding between French and English speakers in various settings, with a focus on public engagements, legal proceedings and medical contexts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide virtual interpretation services via Zoom and Microsoft Teams, or in person
- Accurately interpret between French and English, maintaining the content and spirit of the original message
- Explain cultural nuances and customs to facilitate better understanding
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics
Qualifications:
- Fluency in French and English
- Demonstrated aptitude in maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information
- Familiarity and confidence with public-speaking
- High level of comfort with legal and medical terminology
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Reliable internet connection and quiet workspace for virtual meetings
Preferred (but not mandatory):
- Certification in interpretation or related field
- Minimum of 1 year customer service experience
Technical Requirements:
- Proficiency in using Zoom and Microsoft Teams
- Familiarity with virtual interpretation tools and best practices
