Reports To: Manager, Mobile Settlement and Financial Empowerment Services

Duration: Aug. 2025-Dec. 2025 (possibility of renewal)

Location: In-person, various public libraries and NYCH Ranee locations


Who We Are

North York Community House (“NYCH”) has been serving the residents of northwest Toronto for over 20 years. We are committed to working with people by supporting newcomers in settling and integrating into the community; offering programs that build skills, leadership and community connections; providing information and referral services; strengthening neighbourhoods by working with residents; and supporting the positive development of children, youth and families.


Position Summary

North York Community House (NYCH) provides year-round Financial Empowerment (FE) services at a variety of community spaces across the Greater Toronto Area, including public libraries and our main NYCH location. We are seeking a dynamic and adaptable team member to support our core financial empowerment team, currently delivering services across four locations: three public libraries and our primary NYCH site. This is a mobile position that requires travel between locations and the flexibility to work Saturdays (9:30 am – 5:00 pm with a 30-minute lunch break) and occasional weekday evenings (e.g., 11:30 am – 7:00 pm with a 30-minute lunch break). The successful candidate will support the delivery of one-on-one and group-based financial literacy and empowerment services tailored to the needs of low-income newcomers and residents.


Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach and build connections with diverse low-income communities in northwest Toronto and other GTA areas.
  • Provide individualized support to low-income newcomers and residents on a variety of financial topics, using a coaching approach.
  • Facilitate blended (online/in-person) group workshops and learning sessions on key financial literacy and empowerment topics.
  • Share financial literacy information and resources with NYCH program staff and support their integration of FE topics into daily service delivery.
  • Deliver internal staff training sessions on foundational coaching skills for client support.
  • Collaborate with the Financial Empowerment Lead to develop and customize FE curriculum and training materials for clients and frontline staff.
  • Support clients in developing personalized financial action plans that reflect their goals, needs, and unique circumstances.
  • Provide tax-filing services to individuals and families throughout the contract period.
  • Maintain accurate client records and program data; input statistics into NYCH’s database and report to supervisor regularly.
  • Attend monthly team meetings (in-person or online) and complete administrative duties including receipts and reporting.

Required Qualifications: Education, Experience and Skills

  • The minimum level of education preferred is a degree/diploma in social sciences, finance, economics, community development, or settlement services.
  • Certification or formal training in financial literacy, problem solving coaching, financial planning and experience with tax filing services in the community is a strong asset.
  • Deep understanding of the financial and social challenges facing low-income communities, especially post-pandemic.
  • Expertise in at least one of the following: Canadian income security programs, tax systems, access to financial services, savings tools, or financial planning.
  • Direct experience with low-income, newcomer, or marginalized communities, including varying cultures, abilities, education, levels and languages.
  • Familiarity with resources and supports for low-income individuals and families.
  • Familiarity with CRA-certified tax software or other tax-preparation knowledge
  • Strong networking, relationship-building, and partnership development skills.
  • Proven experience offering one-on-one support using a coaching framework.
  • Skilled facilitator of training sessions and community workshops.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in one or more of the following languages will be considered a strong asset: Gujarati, Urdu, Pashto, Farsi, Tagalog, and Persian
  • Access to a car is a strong asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and general computer literacy

Other Requirements: A successful clearance of criminal record verification will be required when necessary for the position.
