Position Summary
We are seeking a reliable and hands-on Facility Maintenance Technician to ensure the safety, cleanliness, and functionality of our childcare centres. This part-time role involves general maintenance, inspections, and coordination of small and large projects across multiple locations. The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, and capable of working independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance: doors, locks, cribs, strollers, playground gates, sheds
- Maintain filters (furnace/humidifier), dryer vents, appliances, drains, sinks, faucets, and toilets
- Seasonal tasks: shut off hose bibs, trim shrubs/trees, inspect outdoor drains
- Clean light fixtures and behind major appliances; apply caulking as needed
- Conduct regular facility inspections; document and report issues
- Respond to emergency situations (e.g., plumbing, HVAC, security); must be available on-call
- Assist with project coordination (e.g., fence installs, roofing repairs); obtain quotes and oversee work
- Collaborate with site supervisors and use mobile or digital tools to log tasks and communicate
- Other maintenance tasks as required
Qualifications
- Previous experience in facility maintenance or trades (general handyman skills)
- Access to and ability to use basic general handyman tools
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, use ladders, and operate power tools safely
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle (travel required between sites)
Additional Requirements
- Must be available for occasional emergency call-outs, including evenings, weekends, or holidays
- Employment is contingent on a Vulnerable Sector Police Check and compliance with all childcare safety protocols
- Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) childcare-specific health & safety standards, including Ministry of Education regulations
- Ability to work independently across multiple sites and coordinate with supervisors remotely
