Organizational Overview
The Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture (NSFA) represents the interests of Nova Scotia’s agricultural community. Today its members account for well over 90% of all agricultural production in Nova Scotia and it brings together farm businesses representing all aspects of primary agriculture in the province. The NSFA tackles policy issues that impact the competitive and sustainable nature of the industry and takes an active role in supporting registered farms through the delivery of programs and services. The NSFA supports farm employers by providing tools, resources, best practices, and training while advocating on their behalf.
The NSFA is currently seeking an Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) Coordinator to join the Environment and Climate Change (ECC) Team. The EFP Coordinator will work with the ECC Team to support farmers by conducting Environmental Farm Plan assessments and providing a report to farms with recommendations and resources to support the adoption of the BMPs. The EFP Coordinator also plays an integral role in providing farmers with knowledge, education and guidance on issues related to environmental stewardship

Key Responsibilities
- Support the development, review, and implementation of EFP processes, templates, tools, and resources.
- Coordinate the EFP process including intake, interviews, farm visits, assessments, data input, and report delivery.
- Prepare EFP reports that include risk assessments, recommended actions, and supporting resources.
- Utilize and maintain the EFP database for data entry, report generation, and program monitoring.
- Develop and deliver workshops and information sessions on environmental stewardship.
- Create promotional and educational materials such as fact sheets and guides.
- Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge on best practices in agricultural environmental stewardship.
- Advise farmers on government funding programs linked to EFP recommendations.
- Manage and support special projects to enhance the EFP program.
- Promote the EFP program and environmental stewardship through various communication channels.
- Engage with farmers to understand and support their environmental needs.
- Serve as the first point of contact for farm employers seeking environmental information and guidance.
- Liaise with stakeholders, including government, Perennia, and commodity groups, to support collaboration and special projects.
- Participate in strategic planning, program evaluation, funding applications, reporting, and other administrative activities to support NSFA’s goals.
Qualifications
- Post- secondary education in agriculture, environment, soils or equivalent field
- Professional Agrologist designation (P.Ag) or eligibility for designation
- Certified Crop Advisor considered an asset
- Strong communication, both verbal and written
- Knowledge of the agriculture industry and environmental management is required
- Experience working with small and medium-sized rural businesses is required
- Specialized knowledge in GIS, water management, biodiversity, nutrient management, climate adaptation, and/or soil management are considered assets
- Proficient in M365 and Adobe programs
- Team-oriented but able to work independently
- Must have valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and access to a vehicle
Compensation
- Starting annual salary between $59,000 and $68,000
- 3 weeks of vacation annually plus winter Holiday closure
