The Employment Counsellor provides individual/ group employment counselling and career planning services to immigrants and refugees residing in Calgary and area. Highlights of the position include: needs determination assessment, training on the most recent job search strategies, resume/ cover letter/ interview preparation, group facilitation, marketing, referrals to employers/ other programs/ services and job placement.
Description
The Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS) is seeking a qualified individual for the Employment Counsellor position. CCIS’s employment Counselors provide individual or group-based counselling and career planning services to immigrants and refugees who are trying to integrate into the Canadian workforce. Employment Counsellors network with employers to build partnerships and create connections between job openings and qualified CCIS clients, address specific employer needs through the development and delivery of job fairs, and conduct outreach activities within the community to raise awareness of CCIS and to ensure that newcomers to Calgary have access to CCIS’ Employment Services.
Responsibilities:
Employment Counselling to immigrant and refugees
- To provide individual or group employment counselling
- To provide career planning services
- To evaluate client's job performance
- To Provide recommendations for career planning and job search
CBW Workshop
- To facilitate and deliver Career Bridge Workshops
- To monitor, develop and design all components of CBW
- To update program material, resources form and all documents
Service delivery
- To get professional staff and volunteers
- To get guests speakers
Data base management
- To develop and monitor effectively the client database
- To compile data and submit monthly, quarterly final and annual report
Job related activities
- To participate in work related interagency meeting and committees
- To participate in professional development courses
- To develop job leads and contacts to assist clients in obtaining employment
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree in Psychology, Education, Business or Marketing plus related industry experience
- Excellent counselling skills along with well-developed needs assessment, analytical and facilitation skills
- A strong understanding of the Alberta labour market
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience working with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds/ appreciation of cultural diversity
- Computer literate
- Excellent team player
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Certificate in Career Development will be an asset
- Arabic language fluency is considered an asset.
