Salary Range: $24.14 -$24.90 per hour (Start rate: $24.14 per hour in accordance with collective agreement requirements).

Hours: Various hours per week - Various Shifts, Days, Evenings, Nights and Weekends, Stat Holidays

The Emergency Department is state-of-the-art with 25 acute care beds, 14 of which are equipped for cardiac monitoring. There is a “Fast Track” area to assess non-urgent patients. The multidisciplinary staff provide 24-hour service to meet the emergency care needs of approximately 29,000 adults per year. A CT scan has been installed in the department. The electronic whiteboard, a communication tool for staff, identifies the location of patients and is an excellent tool for reviewing patient record lab results and the status of all radiological procedures.

As a member of the Emergency Department (ED) the responsibilities of the EMERGENCY SERVICES ATTENDANT include performing transportation functions, including movement of patients, equipment and supplies; stocking supplies; ensuring necessary inventories are maintained in the patient care areas of the Emergency Department: performing patient focused care and patient assistance functions; performing other indirect patient related duties; working in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies and contravention’s of the Act, in a timely manner; performing cross-functional duties as assigned and/or required; and performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned and/or required.


  • At minimum completion of High School diploma

  • Six (6) months to less than One (1) Year practical and related experience, and/or Three (3) months to less than 6 months on the job training

  • Standard First Aid/Basic Rescuer Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R.) certification an asset

  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards

  • Exercise initiative and good judgement with ability to multi-task

  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy

  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills

  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies

  • Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand

  • May be required to work at multiple areas as well as rotating shifts in emergency situations
