In Your Role You Will
- Support individuals to build life skills and social/occupational skills, independence and encourage participation and social interaction within the community.
- Teach/assist the client with daily household tasks (food preparation, laundry, cleaning, etc) and light personal care (grooming, dental care, bathing)
- Drive individual in your own vehicle to appointments, day programs, community events, etc..
- Contribute toward design, implementation and evaluation of individual service plans, program specific policies & procedures.
- Communicate/document information that relates to program changes/service recipient changes to peers, ministry representatives and other stakeholders as required.
- Observe/document needs of individuals in service.

The Position
This position requires union membership with CUPE 1099.
During overnight hours sleep shift staff ensure a consistent, healthy and safe environment for the person in care and are available to provide immediate support in crisis situations. In the event of an emergent situation, sleep staff will be responsible for awake responsibilities.
The front-line DSW sleeps at the client's residence and is available, if needed, to assist the client during overnight hours.
An additional $3.30 per hour will be paid when supporting complex needs clients. This additional amount does not apply to scheduled trainings/meetings and non-complex shifts.
Scheduling:
One (1) permanent, full-time position
- 12 hour night shifts 1900-0700 on a two week rotation, which consist of 4hrs awake scheduling and 8hrs of asleep scheduling
- Week 1: Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday
- Week 2: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday
Mandatory Pre-Employment Screenings and Checks
*** Prior to confirmation of employment, all applicants must provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter. These checks vary depending on province and sector and will be communicated by the Program Hiring Team.
As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
- 2 years experience supporting individuals with high behaviors, autism, FASD, developmental disabilities, mental health concerns, trauma, etc.
- High School Diploma/GED
- Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle (for transporting clients)
- First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification (NVCI or CPI)
- Skills in assisting individuals in anger management, daily living, self help, etc.
- Will receive training in Medication Administration, Abuse Protocol, Proactive Procedures and Behavioural Strategies, Suicide Prevention, etc.
