The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and visionary educational leader to join our senior leadership team as Director of Instruction: Curriculum & Assessment. This role is pivotal in ensuring every student in SD48 has access to high-quality, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning experiences that foster excellence and belonging.
Reporting to the Superintendent, the Director of Instruction provides district-wide leadership and support in curriculum implementation, instructional practices, district curricular programs, assessment strategies, professional learning, and educational innovation aligned with the BC Ministry of Education’s priorities and the district's Strategic Plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of K-12 curriculum and instruction strategies across the district
- Champion evidence-based, inclusive, and innovative pedagogical practices that support student achievement and well-being
- Oversee assessment frameworks that are aligned with provincial guidelines, inclusive of formative, summative, and culturally responsive assessment tools
- Collaborate with Principals, Vice Principals, teachers, and district staff to support professional learning and instructional leadership
- Build collaborative systems to monitor, evaluate, and report on student learning, with attention to equity, student voice, and Indigenous ways of knowing
- Provide leadership in literacy and numeracy development, inclusive education, and learning technologies
- Act as liaison to the Ministry of Education on curriculum and assessment matters
- Support the integration of Indigenous knowledge and perspectives into curriculum and instructional practice
- Mentor and supervise members of the Curriculum & Instruction team, including the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT)
- Contribute to district planning, budgeting, and leadership initiatives as a member of the Senior Instructional Team and Administrative Council
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s Degree in Education, preferably in Curriculum & Instruction/Pedagogy
- BC Professional Teaching Certificate
- Minimum of five years of successful school or district-level leadership, preferably in BC public schools
- Demonstrated leadership and expertise in K-12 curriculum design, inclusive instructional practice, and assessment for learning
- Deep understanding of BC’s redesigned curriculum, Indigenous education, and inclusive education principles
- Proven ability to lead system-wide change through collaboration, mentorship, and data-informed decision making
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- A commitment to equity, diversity, truth and reconciliation, and student voice

Salary range: $173,058.00 to $188,107.00 per year.
