Main Responsibilities
- Lead comprehensive media coverage for Ottawa Black Bears on the team’s website, including writing pre and post-game stories, features and timely articles about the lacrosse club and its personnel.
- Attend all Black Bears home games and morning shootarounds at Canadian Tire Centre, conducting interviews with players, coaches and staff.
- Work closely with Black Bears social media specialist to ensure stories are amplified across appropriate platforms.
- Lead media relations and communications efforts for the Black Bears, writing press releases and assisting with coordinating external media interviews and credential requests.
- Working closely with Senators VP of communications, create a media plan to help drive local and national coverage of the Black Bears.
- Work closely with National Lacrosse League (NLL) head office to serve as main point of contact for media and statistical-related inquiries for the Black Bears.
- Create consistent written coverage of the Ottawa Senators for the team’s website, including writing features and timely articles about the hockey club.
- Work closely with the Senators director of communications to create an editorial schedule for the upcoming season.
- Attend all Senators home games and practices at Canadian Tire Centre.
- Work closely with the marketing, corporate and Foundation divisions to ensure written content about upcoming promotions, sponsorship deals and charitable endeavours are properly covered on the club’s website.
- Assist the Senators communications and content department as needed, helping with videography, social media, podcast and media relations entities when called upon.
Qualifications
- Recent graduate from a journalism program at a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Strong written portfolio, including examples of longform or feature articles.
- Ability to work on multiple written projects and features simultaneously.
- Strong written skills that will require little or no editing from a supervisor.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
- French is considered an asset.
