This is a long-term, full-time temporary position for a duration of 12 months.
Your role

Under the supervision of a director, the cultural reporter is responsible for covering the arts scene in Ottawa, Gatineau, and surrounding areas. The successful candidate must have an excellent understanding of cultural news at the international, national, and regional levels. They should have a genuine interest in various art forms, including music, literature, performing arts, film, and visual arts.
The person in this role must be able to analyze and critique works across radio, television, and digital platforms. The person should be eager to collaborate with fellow reporters and producers to share content and ideas and must be capable of pitching original stories that stand out and contribute to impactful journalism. A strong command of social media is essential to promote and highlight their content.
The cultural reporter will primarily work for radio, contributing to the show Les matins d’ici, but may also be called upon to contribute to other programs and digital coverage. Excellent spoken and written French, as well as strong on-camera delivery, are essential requirements for this position.
We are looking for a candidate with the following profile:
  • University degree or equivalent
  • Three (3) years of experience in cultural journalism
  • Strong knowledge of new technologies and social media
  • Advanced writing skills and an interest in multiplatform media production
  • Ability to produce relevant, audience-focused reports that reflect issues being discussed in the broader cultural sphere
  • Ability to react quickly to breaking news
  • Knowledge of cultural events and issues in the Outaouais region and Eastern Ontario, and a strong interest in these topics
  • Creativity and willingness to take risks
  • Commitment to reflecting the community and diversity
  • Good command of English
