Your role
ICI Radio-Canada Manitoba is looking for a cross-platform videojournalist to be based in Winnipeg. The working language is French. In this role, you will be assigned to develop a digital content offering.
Please note:
  • The work schedule may include weekend shifts.
  • Excellent English and French is required.

Key Tasks:
  • Develop and maintain contacts with a variety of sources in the cultural sector to ensure current knowledge of issues and events in the coverage area relevant to the objectives of the role.
  • Gather information from various sources.
  • Be interested in and knowledgeable about arts and culture topics that engage young francophones and francophiles across the province.
  • Analyze facts and information gathered and draw conclusions or raise issues requiring further investigation.
  • Arrange for and conduct interviews.
  • Be assigned primarily to the arts show Connexion and to special projects for the newsroom.
  • Develop shot lists and sequences that contribute to the focus and mood of the story.
  • Prepare, align, set up and operate an ENG/EFP unit, a smartphone and ancillary equipment, ensuring optimal audio, video and technical quality under prevailing conditions.
  • Understand digital media and the consumption patterns of digital users.
  • Light the subject or scene and compose program visual material using a handheld camera. Ensure that the material produced meets the technical and esthetic requirements for editing.
  • Deliver all recorded materials, including shot lists and sequences.
  • Edit recorded items on appropriate/available editing systems.
  • Prepare and write scripts, continuity and headlines.
  • Report the story, either on camera or in voice-over form.
  • Be flexible to work regularly for television, radio and/or digital platforms.
  • Drive a motor vehicle in the performance of the job.

What You Bring:
  • Combination of education and experience equivalent to a university degree plus three years’ practical, relevant experience, or a college diploma and five years’ practical, relevant experience in the field.
  • Excellent writing, storytelling and interviewing skills on both digital and broadcast media.
  • Ease with live reporting.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) required.
  • Knowledge of Manitoba, local and Franco-Manitoban communities, provincial and federal politics, and related issues an asset.
  • Sensitivity to the country’s French-speaking communities.
  • Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada journalistic and programming policies.
  • Ability to work with a variety of teams but also be a strong self-starter.
  • Critical mind.
  • Proven ability to work in a high-stress, tight-deadline environment.
  • Experience working on multiple stories simultaneously.
  • Understanding of the public broadcaster’s role and responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with in-house production tools an asset: Dalet, MediaCentral, iNews, Scoop and Hindenburg.
  • Experience as a videojournalist an asset.
  • Valid driver’s licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada’s insurance company.
