The Bail Verification and Supervision Program is hiring a Court Verification Worker for the Peel region. The position is an 8 month contract role, 35 hours/week, with a potential start date of August 18th, 2025.


The Court Verification Worker is responsible for supporting the operations of the Bail Verification and Supervision Program by providing court-based administrative support in assessing potential clients for program suitability and offering service planning and support to individuals referred by the courts, including Duty Counsel and Private Counsel.


The Court Support Worker addresses immediate needs and risk factors associated with clients' involvement in the criminal justice system, helping to ensure appropriate community-based alternatives to pre-trial detention are accessible and effectively implemented.


Duties/Responsibilities/Procedures

Court Work:
  • Attend court locations as required
  • Interview clients in designated cell area to obtain verification information
  • Complete standardized assessment to evaluate client risk level and need areas
  • Assist clients with appropriate referrals if needed
  • Provide assistance with understanding the requirements of the release including responsivity to report as directed.
  • Interact respectfully with a diverse population on a variety of sensitive topics
  • Provide referral to appropriate community services
  • Testify in court as required
  • Advocate for clients as needed
  • Maintain consistent communication and develop positive relations with court personnel and other service provider involved with the client


Documentation/Administrative:

  • Ensure documentation practices, as outlined in Minimum Standards, are adhered to including all documentation to be complete and properly recorded
  • Maintain client file in a timely and efficient manner, assessments, notes, reports, statical information
  • Follow all protocols/procedures outlined in the Program Manual
  • Compile and provide daily and monthly statistical data to Program Managers
  • Provide comprehensive reports to management as required
  • Prepare reports for court as needed


Working Conditions and Environment:

  • Maintain workplace confidentiality and work within the policies and procedures as outlined in program and policy manuals, while respecting the mission, vision, and principles of the agency.
  • Provide support and coverage when needed to JHSPHD court office locations
  • Demonstrate integrity and respect as it applies to the role as a representative of the agency.
  • Work in a spirit of congeniality with all staff.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of resources/services available in the community which could be of assistance to the clients and staff.
  • Ability to comply with deadlines as directed by management.
  • Participate in team meetings and other committees as directed by Program Managers.
  • Participate in relevant training opportunities to keep skills and frame of reference current/effective.
  • Provide supervision to student placements and/or volunteers as requested by Program Managers.
  • Represent the agency at community events, public speaking engagements, etc. at the direction of management.
  • Engage in open discussion with the management team regarding program innovation and effective service delivery.


Personal Skills/Attributes required for the position:

  • Completion of post-secondary education in a related field
  • A minimum of 2 years front-line and court experience
  • The work requires excellent communication skills and highly developed interpersonal skills to effectively manage sensitive issues involving the public, staff, professionals, ministry staff, local officials of government, public institutions.
  • Reliable and fair judgment is required when dealing with individual staff, employee committee members, the public and ministry staff and community partners.
  • Well developed critical thinking and decision-making skills are a necessity.
  • Understanding of working within a framework of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • The work produces considerable cognitive stress through intensity, frequency and/or duration of stressful elements, including timelines, funding requirements, and reporting.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and ownership of a vehicle is required due to the necessity of working at multiple locations.
  • CPIC & Vulnerable Sector clearance will be required.
