Course Description: This introduction to the field of second language education provides an overview of the supporting disciplines (e.g., linguistics, psychology, sociology and education) and includes historical and analytical perspectives on the development of L2 teaching through an examination of approaches to L2 instruction and specific teaching methods.

Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs):
Education
- Master’s degree in Second Language Education or related area (in exceptional circumstances applicants without a Master’s degree but with significant research or professional experience related to the course content may be considered)
- Teaching degree or equivalent in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL)
- PhD or equivalent in a relevant field is an asset
Experience
1. Expert knowledge of course content as represented in current eCalendar description including:
- Foundations of second language teaching from linguistic, psychological, sociological and educational perspectives
- History of methods
- Current approaches and teaching methods
- Knowledge of the Quebec Education program (QEP) specific to ESL programs
2. Familiarity with the 13 professional competencies specified by the Ministère de l’Éducation
3. Experience teaching ESL in Quebec elementary/secondary French school system
4. Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) to pre-service teachers
Other
- Commitment to working with a team of committed and engaged instructors.
- Must be available to attend course coordination and planning meeting minimum of 2 weeks in advance of course start date
- Knowledge of the impact and proven record integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion
- Familiarity using myCourses, ZOOM and other similar online platforms to facilitate quality teaching and learning experiences
- Familiarity teaching blended classes is an asset
- Familiarity with the application of a variety of digital teaching and learning tools

This course section is taught in French. A high level of proficiency in French and ability to teach in French are required.
