POSITION: CONSTRUCTION YOUTH INTERN
HOUR OF WORK: FULL-TIME, FIXED TERM (September 22nd to December 19th, 2025) (35 hours per week)
REPORTS TO: CONSTRUCTION FOREMAN AND HOUSING MANAGER
WAGE RANGE: $20 - $27 per hour
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
This opportunity is designed specifically for Indigenous youth ages 15–30 who are interested in exploring a career in the construction and trades sector. The Construction Youth Intern will gain hands-on experience while supporting various tasks on construction sites and learning about the construction industry. Interns will develop valuable skills in site safety, material handling, blueprint reading, communication, and project coordination.
This internship is ideal for individuals seeking mentorship, training, and real-world experience in a supportive and culturally grounded environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Site Support
- Assist with day-to-day site activities, such as material delivery, equipment use, and general site maintenance and cleanup.
Material Handling
- Help track and organize materials and supplies, and ensure they are stored properly on-site.
Safety Protocols
- Learn and follow safety procedures to help create and maintain a safe and respectful work environment.
Learning and Development
- Participate in training sessions and job-shadowing opportunities with experienced tradespeople and mentors.
- Gain insight into different trades and construction processes.
Communication
- Support team communication efforts, including relaying messages and participating in team meetings.
Project Management
- Learn about construction project timelines, budgeting, and coordination.
Blueprint Reading
- Begin developing skills in reading and understanding blueprints and basic construction drawings.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A First Nation youth, 15-30 years of age with an interest in a career in construction
- Standard First Aid, CPR & AED Certification would be an asset
- Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check required as a condition of employment
- Valid BC Drivers license is an asset but not required
