North Slave Métis Alliance (NSMA) is an Indigenous organization that represents s.35 Aboriginal rights-bearing Indigenous Métis people of the Great Slave Lake area. Our mandate includes protection of our members' Aboriginal rights, environment, and cultural heritage.

We are hiring 1 full time staff to join our Lands & Culture Department as a Community Project Coordinator. This individual will support the North Slave Métis Alliance in achieving their mandate through the development of a comprehensive geographic information (GIS) and traditional knowledge database. In addition, this individual will work alongside our Community Advisory Committee on key initiatives that prioritize community needs. This database will support our community members in managing land and water across our traditional territory.

Job Type: Full-time (37.5 hours/week Monday-Friday)

Location: Yellowknife, NWT Canada (in-person)

Compensation: $40-45/hour (dependent on candidate experience)

Start Date: August 1, 2025 (flexibility available)

Responsibilities:

Qualifications:

o A bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental studies, geography, Indigenous knowledge systems, communications, or similar

o Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

o Basic understanding of the nature of Aboriginal rights in Canada and ongoing land claims negotiations in the NWT

o Holds Class 5 driver’s license

o Proficiency in budget management (applying to funding, managing funds

A successful candidate will hold:

Desirable Assets:

o Master’s degree in a relevant field (environment, geography, social studies, etc.)

o Experience in engagement and consultation with Indigenous peoples.

o Experience conducting oral history interviews.

o Experience with Adobe Suite, mapping software (e.g., ArcGIS), qualitative analysis software (e.g., NVIVO).

o Willingness and ability to work on-the-land, often in remote locations alongside community members.
