Rexdale Community Health Centre (RCHC) is a multi-service centre providing primary health care, health promotion and community support services, including settlement and community development activities for families, children, youth, adults and seniors of diverse backgrounds.
The Centre is currently seeking a Community Ambassador to support the deliverables for the Pediatric Recovery Initiative programs. As a member of the Centre’s interdisciplinary team, the Youth Ambassador will perform general outreach duties related to these programs and services.
Position Summary:
Working closely with the Pediatric Recovery Initiative project team and other clinical programs at RCHC, the Community Ambassador will provide culturally specific community outreach, education, and information and promote awareness regarding the Pediatric Recovery Initiative and services within the Rexdale community.
Responsibilities and Duties: (but not limited to)
· Share information about programs and services with community members and local businesses.
· Promote awareness of the Pediatric Recovery Initiative project and services with community members and local organizations, including schools.
· Inform and educate community members on public health measures and promote awareness of diabetes and other chronic diseases.
· Organize information sessions and distribute resources at health fairs/events and presentations at local community agencies and partners, religious organizations and local businesses and workplaces.
· Address and dispel culturally specific myths and misinformation through culturally and language-appropriate education. Information sessions and tailored support.
· Refer community members to appropriate resources and supports within the community.
Qualifications and Skills:
· Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in social service work or community development work
· Familiarity with the North Etobicoke Community and populations
· College Diploma preferred but not essential
· Excellent communication and presentation skills to clearly convey information in a manner that engages the audience and promotes understanding of the information.
· Must be able to work a variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends, and from a variety of locations within the Rexdale Community
· Demonstrate a strong interest in making an impact in the community through service, leadership, and education
· Ability to engage and inspire a diverse population, including individuals who may be unreceptive, uninformed or misinformed as well as community members, business owners and other local agencies, to adopt behaviour changes that promotes awareness and understanding of sickle cell disease, diabetes and other chronic diseases.
· Strong conflict resolution skills to effectively navigate challenging situations, using appropriate interpersonal approaches and techniques to minimize tension and resolve conflict.
· Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds utilizing an equity lens to ensure inclusivity and fairness.
· Self-directed, self-motivated, with a positive attitude, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
· Ability to prioritize, multi-task and adjust to shifting priorities.
Salary: $19.73 to $23.77 per hour based on experience
Hours per week: 35 hours per week
