School-Age Child Care Assistant (Part-Time - Split Shift)
Hours: Part-time, split shifts, approximately 25 hours per week.
- Typical Split Shift Schedule: 7:00 AM - 9:00 AM, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM, 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday
- Full-Time Hours: Up to 8 hours/day during school in-service days, professional development days, and school holidays (e.g., Winter Break, Spring Break, Summer Break).
Job Summary:
We are seeking an enthusiastic, responsible, and adaptable School-Age Child Care Assistant to join our team. This unique split-shift role is perfect for a university student looking for flexible hours that complement their academic schedule. You will play a vital role in supervising and engaging school-age children (typically ages 6-12) during before-school, lunch-time, and after-school periods, as well as planning and leading full-day activities during school breaks. The ideal candidate will be creative, patient, and passionate about working with children.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervision & Safety: Provide direct supervision of school-age children, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times, both indoors and outdoors.
- Activity Facilitation: Plan, prepare, and lead age-appropriate recreational and educational activities (e.g., games, crafts, sports, reading, homework support) during before-school, lunch, and after-school programs.
- Full-Day Programming: During school in-service days and holidays, assist with the development and implementation of exciting full-day schedules, including special events, outings, and themed activities.
- Positive Guidance: Promote positive social interactions and behavior through encouragement, clear expectations, and constructive problem-solving.
- Transitions: Facilitate smooth transitions for children arriving from and departing to school, ensuring accurate attendance and communication with parents.
- Communication: Maintain open and friendly communication with children, parents/guardians, and other staff members.
- Environment Maintenance: Assist with the setup and clean-up of program areas and materials.
- Policy Adherence: Adhere to all daycare policies, procedures, and provincial regulations for child care centres.

Qualifications:

Compensation:
Additionally, employees working split shifts will receive an extra $2.00 per hour for all hours worked during their split shift.
