The Cook is responsible for all duties related to menu planning, purchasing of groceries and supplies and daily preparation of nutritious meals and snacks served to the children (ages 1 – 6 years) enrolled in the centre and the cleanliness of the kitchen.
The kitchen is to be managed and the work of the Cook is to be conducted in strict compliance with the Public Health Department, Child Care and Early Years Act and the Ministry of Education.
Is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the kitchen, organize, cook, plan, and
prepare a healthy, balanced, plant based (Vegan) diet for children (aged 1 to 6 years) ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements
Prepare a suitably balanced rotating menu taking into account special dietary requirements, allergies, and cultural requirements of the children.
Ensure high standards of hygiene, health and safety is maintained in the kitchen at all times.
All cooking and baking. Lunches and 2 snacks daily for up to 90 children per day
Inventory control and rotation
Grocery shopping, menu planning (vegan/plant based menu)
Cleaning/sanitizing kitchen & equipment
Responsible for meeting dietary needs of all children, including those with allergies. This may include reading labels and making alternative meals or snacks for children with special needs.
Able to walk up and down 1 flight of stairs, carrying buckets with food/dishes
Lift and/or move between 10 pounds up to 30 pounds.

Safe Food Handler’s Certificate
Valid Standard First Aid and Level “C” CPR
Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
Up to date immunizations
Valid Driver’s License & own Vehicle (milage is reimbursed)

Familiarity with planning and implementing vegan menus around the Canada Food Guide and other municipal or regional guidelines
