Head Chef / Food Services Manager
Location: Maryhill, Ontario

Wage: $26–$30/hour (based on experience)
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8-hour day shifts
Occasional weekend or holiday support may be requested in rare emergency situations.
About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Head Chef / Food Services Manager to lead the culinary department at Genesis Terrace Retirement Home. This is more than just a kitchen—it’s the heart of our home, where residents gather, connect, and find comfort in nourishing meals. As the leader of our food services team, you’ll play a key role in setting the tone for exceptional dining experiences while creating a culture of collaboration, creativity, and care.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all culinary operations including planning, preparation, and presentation of meals.
- Design menus that meet residents' dietary needs, preferences, and medical requirements in collaboration with our care team and future dietary aide.
- Source fresh, seasonal ingredients and manage food orders, inventory, and budgets.
- Ensure strict adherence to all public health, food handling, and sanitation standards.
- Train and mentor the culinary team, setting clear expectations and fostering a positive kitchen environment.
- Support resident engagement by incorporating feedback and involving them in meal planning when possible (client-centered care)
- Oversee snack programs, rotating baked goods, and café offerings (featuring our espresso bar and cozy lounge).
- Collaborate with other departments to align meal service with programming and wellness goals.
- Contribute to the development of kitchen policies, procedures, and department workflows.
- Participate in the hiring and onboarding of future dietary aides and assistant cooks.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a Chef or Food Service Manager, preferably in a retirement, healthcare, or hospitality setting.
- Culinary training or Red Seal certification preferred.
- Current Safe Food Handling Certificate (required).
- Strong knowledge of public health standards, allergen safety, and dietary modifications.
- Experience mentoring or leading kitchen teams with professionalism and patience.
- Comfortable with menu planning, sourcing, and budgeting.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Empathy, creativity, and a commitment to creating meals that feel like home.
