The Bilingual Interpreter is responsible for assisting with planning and implementation of education and outreach programs in both official languages (French and English) as part of ERCA's cross-functional Community Outreach Team at ERCA properties and facilities, at client sites and virtually. Reporting to the Curator/Education Coordinator, this position plays an active role in providing exceptional customer service to our internal and external clients and the broader community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Delivers a wide variety of heritage and natural interpretive programming (i.e. scheduled programs, demonstrations, guided tours, nature hikes, etc.) both virtually and in-person at ERCA Conservation Areas including Hillman Marsh, Holiday Beach and the John R. Park Homestead and other ERCA properties and partner sites for schools (K-12), community groups and visitors in both English and French languages.
- Assists with providing a broad range of customer/visitor services including, but not limited to: museum operations and JRPH site tours, program bookings, facility rental inquires and responsible person and key/holder for site rentals. Proactively addresses or responds to situational issues and customer inquiries to ensure excellent customer service.
- Assists with planning and implementation of programs, special events, outreach and fundraising activities.
- Assists with the design and development of engaging and informative exhibits and displays for events and various outreach initiatives.
- Ensures program equipment and supplies including artifacts are well maintained, clean and stored appropriately.
- Works as a collaborative team member and assists with volunteer and special grant employee coordination.
- Carries out regular site cleaning of historical buildings, grounds and visitor centres.
- Performs other related duties and responsibilities consistent with the position as required.
MINIMUM SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Environmental Studies, Outdoor Education, Biology or a related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience, as deemed acceptable to the Employer.
- One year experience creating and delivering presentations or public speaking to a wide variety of audiences including, education programs, interpretation, theater and performing arts, storytelling, and walking tours.
- Excellent customer service with strong communication skills (verbal and written) in both English and French languages.
- Demonstrated knowledge of local natural/cultural heritage.
- Ability to deliver programs/information to audiences of various ages, adapting style to ensure audience appropriateness and experience interacting and connection with people of various social, cultural or economic backgrounds.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work in both an office environment and outdoors.
- Creative, organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently and as part of a larger team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MSTeams, etc.), and confidence in utilizing social media platforms, online presentation tools and web-conferencing platforms (i.e. Zoom, GoogleMeet, etc.).
- Moderate to heavy lifting (up to ~30 lbs) and ability to perform physically demanding tasks is required.
- Must provide police clearance for Vulnerable Sector (VS) Check.
- Valid First Aid/CPR/AED certification is an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Position is based on 28 hours per week. Work week schedule will vary throughout the year with evening and weekend hours required. Holiday work may be required. Occasional schedule changes and overtime on short notice.
- Hazards and Risks: Work is primarily performed outdoors at Conservation Areas and other locations and also within a standard office environment. Regular outdoor work may require prolonged standing/ walking, negotiation of obstacles, and bending or stooping; and carrying equipment, with potential exposure to insects, hazardous plants, inclement weather, heat and cold. Also, work with historical artifacts, modern and antique tools and implements as well as historical processes demonstrated in a living museum environment
- Must wear an ERCA provided uniform. If conducting interpretive programs at the John R. Park Homestead, must wear period-appropriate clothing, including wool garments, hairstyle and accessories while covering or removing any period-inappropriate piercing or body-art.
- Must be able to start and safely extinguish fires
- Position requires some minor maintenance activities such as washroom cleaning and snow removal. Daily sweep of parking lots, trails and other program areas to be conducted and any hazardous materials removed.
