Kennedy House (KH) is a not-for-profit organization with a long-standing dedication to providing exceptional personalized care for youth in the Greater Toronto Area for over 50 years. KH started with an initial family-like group home in 1971 and currently operates several residential and community-based programs, for marginalized and at-risk youth, including:
- One residential home for young people in care;
- Three homes for youth and young adults living with developmental disabilities;
- A Day Treatment school program for youth struggling in the typical school setting;
- Kennedy House Youth Centre, a secure custody facility for male youth experiencing conflict with the law;
- Bailiff services to safely and securely transport youth experiencing conflict with the law;
- Kennedy House After School Program for children aged 4-13 in underserved communities throughout Scarborough; and
- Kennedy House Youth Shelter, for youth aged 16-24 experiencing homelessness.
KH works with youth to enable them to grow as individuals and contribute as members of the community. This is achieved by providing customized support and building trusting relationships.
Job Summary
Below is an outline of expectations and responsibilities for the Part time Bailiff Employee. The primary responsibility of a Bailiff Employee is to provide direct and continuous supervision of young persons while transporting them to various appointments in the community. This individual will work closely with and report to the Bailiff Coordinator. There is a possibility of working some evenings and weekends. The ability to maintain a flexible schedule is necessary.
Major Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of a Part Time Bailiff Worker is to provide direct and continuous supervision of young persons in open and secure detention/custody while transporting them to various appointments in the community.
· The Bailiff Employee must perform the following tasks independently as follows:
- Transport young persons to necessary appointments.
- Recognize and remove young persons from unsafe environment.
- Understand, recognize emotional stress and fears of a young person as related to the receipt of medical care or court appointments.
- Observe and assess on a continuous basis the young person’s state of physical health and refer the young person to medical resource person when required.
- Dispense prescribed medication according to the orders of physician.
- To care and comfort the young person when they are physically ill.
- To prepare and accompany the young person to medical appointments.

Qualifications and Skills
Expectations of Bailiff Employee at Kennedy House Youth Services are as follows:
- Basic knowledge of developmental needs (intellectual, emotional, physical, and social) of young persons in care.
- Appreciation for the young persons’ need for stability and consistent care from adults.
- Demonstrated skills in direct relations to the function/task at hand.
- Ability to relate appropriately to young persons as well as to the families of each individual.
- Ability to write legible, clear and concise reports.
- Demonstrate maturity and reliability at all times.
- Child and Youth Worker/Corrections Diploma or a Bachelor of Arts in a related field, with related work experience.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid are mandatory.
- Valid Class G Driver’s License.
- Certification in CPI is considered an asset
- Proficient using MS Excel, MS Word
