Job description

Kennedy House has a long and fine tradition of providing personal care for young people in the Greater Toronto Area. We started with an initial family-like group home in 1971 and have added along the way additional residential programs, a state-of-the-art secure custody facility, bailiff services, day treatment programs, shelter services, developmental services, and outreach community services in designated priority neighborhoods.

Kennedy House works with youth to enable them to grow as individuals to contribute to as members of the community. This is achieved by providing customized support and building trusting relationships. There are currently a number of full-time male and female designated positions available at our Youth Centre in Ajax, Ontario.

Kennedy House is looking to hire Bailiff workers(On call/Part time).

Job Summary

Below is an outline of expectations and responsibilities for the Part time Bailiff Employee. The primary responsibility of a Bailiff Employee is to provide direct and continuous supervision of young persons while transporting them to various appointments in the community. This individual will work closely with and report to the Bailiff Coordinator. There is a possibility of working some evenings and weekends. The ability to maintain a flexible schedule is necessary.

Major Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of a Bailiff Worker is to provide direct and continuous supervision of young persons in open and secure detention/custody while transporting them to various appointments in the community.

· The Bailiff Employee must perform the following tasks independently as follows:

1. Transport young persons to necessary appointments.

2. Recognize and remove young persons from unsafe environment.

3. Understand, recognize emotional stress and fears of a young person as related to the receipt of medical care or court appointments.

4. Observe and assess on a continuous basis the young person’s state of physical health and refer the young person to medical resource person when required.

5. Apply emergency first aid as required.

6. Dispense prescribed medication according to the orders of physician.

7. To care and comfort the young person when they are physically ill.

8. To prepare and accompany the young person to medical appointments.

Qualifications and Skills

· Expectations of Bailiff Employee at Kennedy House Youth Services are as follows:

1. Basic knowledge of developmental needs (intellectual, emotional, physical, and social) of young persons in care.

2. Appreciation for the young persons’ need for stability and consistent care from adults.

3. Demonstrated skills in direct relations to the function/task at hand.

4. Ability to relate appropriately to young persons as well as to the families of each individual.

5. Ability to write legible, clear and concise reports.

6. Demonstrate maturity and reliability at all times.

7. Child and Youth Worker/Corrections Diploma or a Bachelor of Arts in a related field, with related work experience.

8. Certification in CPR and First Aid are mandatory.

9. Valid Class G Driver’s License.

10. Certification in CPI is considered an asset

11. Proficient using MS Excel, MS Word
