The McMichael Canadian Art Collection ranks among Canada’s top public galleries in size and significance. The McMichael permanent collection consists of over 7,500 artworks by Tom Thomson, the Group of Seven, their contemporaries, and First Nations, Métis, Inuit and contemporary artists who have contributed to the development of the art of Canada.
One third of the McMichael’s collection is Indigenous art. The McMichael collection is supplemented by the long-term loan of over 100,000 drawings, prints, and sculptures from the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative Ltd., based in Kinngait (Cape Dorset, Nunavut). To remain vital and relevant to the interests of its diverse audiences, the McMichael presents temporary special exhibitions that broaden perspectives on art and present Canadian art in a global context.
The McMichael is seeking a part-time (21 hours per week) Assistant Registrar, Travelling Exhibitions, effective September 2, 2025, for a 6-month term. The Assistant Registrar, Travelling Exhibitions, handles the administration and logistics of exhibitions and loans, including loan agreements, shipping coordination and insurance as these activities pertain to exhibitions organized and toured by the McMichael.
The successful candidate will have 1-3 years experience with museum registration procedures, art handling, packing and shipping experience, working knowledge of collection databases, particularly The Museum System (TMS) and excellent organizational skills, accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
Position is on site at the McMichael with the possibility of occasional remote workdays as determined appropriate. Rate of pay is $23-$24/hr., plus 4% vacation pay.
