Career Opportunity

We are currently seeking 2 Apprentice – Handyperson's. This is a 40 hour work week on day shift with Saturday and Sunday off days. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship training program, you will be classified as a Handyperson in wage group 8 and will be assigned to the first available vacancy in accordance with the Maintenance Seniority Regulations. What You Will Do

  • Working under the supervision of a licensed Handyperson, you will you will follow a training program involving progressively more complex work comprising of routine and varied maintenance and repair work performed on building structures and properties
  • Finishing and repairing concrete floors, sidewalks, ramps, etc.; carrying out roof repairs/replacements; installing and repairing fences and barriers; carrying out excavation work; installation and removal of prefabricated shoring and associated wood timbers; driving a truck to transport crew, deliver parts, etc. and occasionally operating a skid steer loader
  • Working in sequence within a crew varying from two to seven Handypersons and/or other Tradespersons
  • Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers and/or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within the area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer

What Skills and Qualifications Do You Have?


  • Training obtained through the completion of grade 10 education and must demonstrate an ability to perform mathematical calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Must possess a valid non-probationary Class "G" or higher Ontario Driver's License, and a driver's abstract in good standing
  • Required to pass written tests set by management which correspond in content to the knowledge, theory and/or practical requirements described above
  • Required to successfully complete the Cement Finisher apprenticeship program and obtain a Certificate of Qualification
  • As the successful candidate, you will be required to attend and successfully complete a training program designated by management for the repair and maintenance of terrazzo
  • Attend and successfully complete the TTC’s in-house the training programs for truck driving certification and pass all written and practical tests to qualify for a Class "DZ" license; forklift truck, skid steer loader; WHMIS, Subway/SRT Rule Book certification, transportation of dangerous goods, propane tank handling, oxyacetylene torch awareness, spills training, confined space entry, confined space air monitor, fall protection awareness, lifting devices (motorized), scaffold safety, asbestos awareness, safe use of chain saws and the handling/disposal of waste; and other programs for respiratory protection, hearing protection, first aid, and C.P.R.
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
