Program Overview:
Beginning September 2024, the Northern Hockey Academy is proud to begin offering an after-school program for young athletes to have FUN, develop proper athletic training habits, and build a life-long focus on physical well-being. We certainly know from hockey, too often in today’s youth sports world our young athletes are specializing in a single sport, playing all 12 months of the year. We also see our kids only having gym class 2-3 times per week in school, which we believe is not enough! Our Long Term Athletic Development (LTAD) program will double as both a great solution for after school child care along with a constantly changing program of athletic development meant to challenge the body with age-appropriate exercises with a focus on fun! We feel that with our focus on fun, friendly competition, and challenging yourself to go outside your comfort zone will encourage your young athlete to make their fitness well being a main focus for their entire life!
Here is how a typical week will look:
School bus drops your child off at NHA around 3:45pm
3:50-4:50 will be spent on the court, with an average week looking like:
o Monday – basketball (training, drills, scrimmaging)
o Tuesday – FUNdamentals Athletic Development (focus on motor skills – running, jumping, throwing, catching, twisting, kicking, etc!)
o Wednesday – soccer (training, drills, scrimmaging)
o Thursday – Speed, Power, & Agility training (sprints, band exercises, lunges, squats, etc… all with a competitive twist and a focus on fun)
o Fridays – free play (a little bit of everything)
4:50 – 5:30 will be spent in the event room for a cool down, wait for parent pickup
o TV
o Board games (jenga, chess/checkers, etc) & Lego, magna tiles, etc.
o Homework time if required
