Accounting Manager

Wallop
$80,000 - $95,000 a year
Vancouver, British Columbia
Full time

Wallop is looking for an Accounting Manager to help our Finance team ensure the financial integrity of our operations and projects.

As Wallop’s Accounting Manager, you’ll be central to our financial operations - keeping our finance books accurate, our projects on track, and our team empowered with the insights they need to succeed. You’ll own the full accounting cycle, lead month-end and year-end reporting, and bring financial clarity to our project work. Beyond the numbers, you’ll streamline systems and workflows (QBO, Salesforce, Forecast), mentor our Accounting Clerk, collaborate with Project Managers, and report to our Director of Finance. This is a unique opportunity to build processes, and have a real impact in a people-oriented, collaborative workplace.

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring hands-on accounting expertise, managerial accounting skills, fluency with QBO, plus the communication and leadership ability to turn numbers into actionable guidance.

We’re a flexible, remote-friendly team, but for this role we’re looking for someone local to Vancouver so you can connect with the team in person when needed.

On a day-to-day basis, the Accounting Manager will own:

Financial Management

  • Manage full-cycle accounting (AP, AR, reconciliations, payroll review, commissions, GL maintenance).
  • Lead month-end and year-end closes with accurate and timely reporting.
Oversee tax preparation and filing with external accountants.
  • Draft technical accounting memos to document policies and treatments.
  • Maintain audit-ready records and ensure compliance with financial standards.

Project Accounting

  • Partner with three Project Managers on 25–50 active projects, acting as the financial point of contact.
  • Oversee project resourcing and revenue reporting, ensuring budgets are met and revenue is recognized on time.
  • Monitor project financial performance using reporting tools; identify risks and flag issues proactively.
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Safeguard the financial integrity of projects through accurate reporting and timely insights.

Leadership & Growth

  • Manage and mentor an Accounting Clerk.
  • Act as backup to the Director of Finance for reporting, oversight, and leadership responsibilities.
  • Lead quarterly finance updates and participate in semi-annual town halls

Systems, Process & Training

  • Set up, maintain, and reconcile invoicing workflows across QuickBooks Online, Salesforce, and Forecast.
  • Own the integrity of financial systems and ensure data consistency across platforms.
  • Build and refine SOPs and dashboards for billing, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Provide training and support to project teams

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance; CPA (or in progress).
  • 3–5+ years progressive accounting experience (small/mid-size public practice or industry, with managerial focus).
  • 1+ years of experience supervising or mentoring team members.
  • Solid understanding of accounting standards and compliance best practices.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, CRMs (e.g. Salesforce) and Forecasting tools (e.g. Forecast)
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee month-end close, reconciliations, tax filings, and financial analysis.
  • Skilled in variance/shortfall analysis, forecasting, and profitability reviews.
  • Able to create financial models and reports
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence and guide Project Managers from a financial perspective.
  • Proactive and autonomous - able to dig into details, identify root causes, and recommend solutions without micromanagement.
  • Experience connecting systems and improving workflows.

Personal

  • You are intelligent, curious, and eager to learn
  • You like people, and people like you
  • You’re team-oriented but equally happy to work on solo projects
  • You enjoy problem-solving and finding solutions
