Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly organized and experienced HR and Accounting Specialist to manage and support in both accounting and human resources functions. This dual role position is ideal for a professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys working across departments to ensure operational excellence, compliance, and worker satisfaction. The role with start as part-time with potential for long-term permanent status.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting:
· Manage full-cycle bookkeeping in QuickBooks Online/Desktop
· Prepare and post journal entries, manage accounts payable and receivable, general ledger entries and reconcile accounts
· Manage month-end and year-end closing processes
- Prepare financial reports, budgets, and forecasts
- Liaise with external accountants, support external audits and ensure compliance with financial regulations
- Process payroll and related remittances in coordination with HR duties
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation
· Ensure compliance with CRA regulations and filing deadlines (HST, WSIB, Receiver General, EHT)
Human Resources:
· Maintain worker records and ensure compliance with employment standards
- Support full-cycle HR processes including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and offboarding
- Develop, review and deploy policies and processes
- Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook in compliance with employment laws
- Administer employee benefits, payroll, and leave management
- Support employee relations, conflict resolution, performance review and disciplinary actions
- Coordinate training and development initiatives
- Ensure compliance with labor laws, health and safety regulations, and internal policies
· Handle confidential HR matters with discretion and professionalism
· Support with administrative duties including job submittals, drafting quote letters etc. as needed
· Manage office inventory supplies including stationery, uniforms, cell phones, computers etc.
· Oversee office access/security, keys and IT support
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- Minimum 5+ years of combined experience in HR and accounting roles
- Knowledge of employment standards and accounting principles
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and HRIS systems
- Experience developing HR policies and procedures
- Experience in developing official documents and training materials
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
· Excellent communication, multi-tasking and interpersonal abilities
· High level of integrity and confidentiality
· Self-starter with a “get-it-done” attitude
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional certifications such as CPA, CHRP, or SHRM-CP
- Experience in a unionized environment or construction/trades sector
- Familiarity with Canadian payroll and employment legislation
