2025 Summer Student - Data Entry Clerk

Law Society of Alberta
$35,526 - $44,984 a year
Calgary, Alberta
Full time
3 weeks ago

As a post-secondary student enrolled in a Legal Assistant or Paralegal program, spending a summer working at the Law Society of Alberta (Law Society) offers an excellent opportunity to kickstart your career. This experience provides valuable insights into the legal profession while allowing you to develop administrative and clerical skills relevant to your field of study.

About the Law Society

The Law Society of Alberta regulates the legal profession in the public interest by promoting and enforcing a high standard of professional and ethical conduct by Alberta Lawyers.

By working as a student with our Custodianship department you will gain experience with legal documents by reviewing and organizing incoming client and law firm files, prepare indexes of file contents, and prepare materials for storage.

Success in this position requires excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently and the ability to communicate effectively while working efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Some legal knowledge is an asset but not required. The work is performed in a standard office environment and involves a combination of computer work and administrative tasks. While some assigned duties are sedentary, others involve standing; walking; bending and twisting; pushing and pulling of service carts; and floor-to-waist lifting of boxes up to 50lbs.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide support to the Custodianship Department;
  • Organize incoming files and prepare indexes of file contents;
  • Attend as required to client requests for files;
  • Assist with listing of the contents of all boxes in accordance with the template provided;
  • Prepare correspondence and documents using the appropriate templates;
  • Maintain professional working relationships with department staff, managers, and stakeholders;
  • Complete other tasks as assigned

Summer students should be ready to commit to working full-time in our Calgary office for the months of June to August 2025.

For the Summer Student Custodianship role, in-office attendance is required Monday through Friday. This promotes collaboration, mentorship, and involvement in cross-department initiatives, helping students build essential workforce skills. By being present in the office, students will have the opportunity to interact directly with experienced professionals, participate in team meetings and projects, and gain a comprehensive understanding of our operations dynamics. This immersive environment will enable students to develop strong professional relationships and receive immediate feedback and guidance, which are crucial components of professional growth and development.

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Enrolled in a post-secondary education for Legal Assistant or paralegal programs.
  • Solid knowledge of relevant computer applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy around data entry.
  • Strong written, verbal and listening communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service orientation.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to bend, twist, push, pull and occasional floor-to-waist lifting of up to 50lbs.

What We Offer

  • Access to a free onsite gym and tenant lounge.
  • Private Reflection Rooms to observe religious or cultural beliefs, meditate or take a mental health break.
  • Our in-office first approach fosters collaboration, mentorship, and engagement in cross-department initiatives.
